There are lots of adjustable beds on the market, varying hugely in both price and quality. We've been supplying these beds from the Rotherham-based manufacturer, Healthbeds, for over a decade and have found them both reliable and value for money. You can pay several thousands of pounds for some of the beds sold by the Sunday colour supplement advertisers, but these beds from Healthbeds provide everything you need in an adjustable bed, from just over £800.
As with all electrically adjustable furniture, if it should ever develop a problem, you want someone to fix it fast. As a result, we don't deliver nationally, only within the Devon and Cornwall area.
The Freedom Adjustable motorised sleep system from Healthbeds combines a smooth, quiet leg and backlift mechanism with a selection of different mattrese, to provide you with the level of support and firmness that's right for you. The mechanisms allow independent adjustment of the elevation of the leg section and the angle of the upper body. This means that, if you want to, you can sleep with only your feet and legs slightly elevated to help with swolen ankles or some circulatory disorders or with the upper body slightly elevated to help with hiatus hernia or respiratory problems. In fact you can sleep with any combination of leg and upper body elevation that you find comfortable. The ability to bring the head end of the bed almost vertical can also help with getting in and out of bed.
These beds are available in a number of sizes and can be linked together to provide independent adjustment of each side of a double bed. All models are 200cm (6'6") in length but are available in 70cm (27.6"), 75cm (29.5"), 80cm (31.5"), 90cm (35.4"), 100cm (39.4"), 110cm (43.3") and 120cm (47.2") widths. Drawers are also available as an option. Where drawers are not required, the divan base can be ordered to a specific height.
Our entry level adjustable bed from Healthbeds is the Postureflex. The mattress is a combination of individually pocketed 15 gauge springs topped with Memory-Flex pressure relief memory foam (viscoelastic foam) layer. The standard mattress has a gentle feel and is suitable for body weights up to around 75kg (12 stone). A firmer version is also available for higher body weights or for those who prefer a firmer feel.
The mattress is supported on a 5-fold adjustable frame with laminated beech slats and uses an Okin Duomat double drive motor unit. These motors have proved to be extremely reliable and are covered by a 2-year guarantee. Movement control is by a 6-button handset.
There is a choice of fabrics for the divan base, which is available either with castors or glides.
Foam mattresses have always been popular on adjustable beds because of the material's inherant flexibility. The Memoryflex from Healthbeds is a composite of a CMHR foam substrate supporting a layer of Vitafoam memory foam (viscoelastic foam). The mattress is available as either 22cm deep (Standard) or 25cm deep (Deluxe), with the memory foam layer being 8cm and 10cm respectively.
The mattress is again supported on a 5-fold adjustable frame with laminated beech slats and uses an Okin Duomat double drive motor unit, covered by a 2-year guarantee. Movement control is by a 6-button handset.
There is a choice of fabrics for the divan base, which is available either with castors or glides.
A Dual Massage Unit with wireless remote control is available as an option on all the Healthbeds adjustable beds. The system uses two independent motor units which are attached to the bed's laminated slats in the lumbar and leg areas of the bed frame. These are the source of the vibration which is transmitted through the mattress to give a variety of massage programmes which are designed to relax the body. The wireless handset is used to operate the normal bed adjustments as well as the massage functions.
